Famed American costume designer Adrian Adolph Greenburg, known as Gilbert Adrian or most often simply Adrian, didn’t just design the costumes for hundreds of the most legendary films & actresses—he transformed the world of film & fashion both on & off screen. From 1928 to 1941, Adrian designed costumes for over 250 films, collaborating with some of the biggest Hollywood icons of the time, such as Greta Garbo, Jean Harlow, Joan Crawford, Katharine Hepburn, & many more. 

Mary Ann Bell was a British fashion merchant, fashion designer & journalist. She was a leading figure in the British fashion industry of her day.

She was the inventor of the Chapeau Bras (1820), a cap which could be folded & was an essential part of military uniform during the 1800’s.. 

Generally regarded as the first internationally famous fashion designer. Rose Bertin was dubbed the ‘Minister of Fashion’. She was the dressmaker to Marie Antoinette, Queen of France ( 1770-1793). Bertin opened a shop in Paris & had a considerable influence on Parisian style, until the French Revolution forced her into exile in London. As an outsider in the French Court, Marie Antoinette relied on Bertin’s meticulous designs to help her “combat her enemies with style”.  

For Mildred Blount (1907–1974), hats were more than just headwear. As a milliner for popular Hollywood movies & private clientele at her Beverly Hills hat shop, she used her immense talent to break barriers.

As a black woman in the early 20th century, she refused to be held back by unjust stereotypes as she advanced her life and career with dignity & elegance. 

Ann Margaret Lanchester was a British fashion merchant & designer. She was a leading figure within the British fashion industry & referred to as ‘The Bonaparte of her day’. She published the exclusive fashion magazine Le Miroir de la Mode for the British nobility, where she illustrated the contemporary fashion through her own dress models, which she sold in her shop in New Bond Street in London (in 1806 she moved to St James’s Street). 

Dame Barbara Mary Quant (1930 – 2023) was a British fashion icon and designer. She became an instrumental figure in the 1960s London-based Mod & youth fashion movements, & played a prominent role in London’s Swinging Sixties culture.

She was one of the designers who took credit for the miniskirt & hotpants.  

The Maison Redfern, founded by the English tailor John Redfern, was the first fashion house to offer women sportswear & tailored suits based on their male counterparts, his practical & soberly elegant garments soon became indispensable to the wardrobes of well-dressed women. 

Charles Frederick Worth was an English fashion designer who founded the House of Worth, one of the foremost fashion houses of the 19th & early 20th centuries.

He is considered by many fashion historians to be the father of haute couture. Worth is also credited with revolutionising the business of fashion.
