A Pride Guide to Native Cities

To celebrate Pride Month, we have curated a special guide to our favourite LGBTQIA+ friendly places and activities across Native cities. From vibrant nightlife spots to cosy cafes and bookshops, explore the best of Glasgow, Manchester and London’s inclusive scene the Native way.

London

Bishopsgate Institute LGBTQ+ Archives

Bishopsgate Institute’s Special Collections and Archives houses one of the UK’s most extensive collections on LGBTQIA+ history, politics, and culture, spanning from the late nineteenth century to today. It includes archives from Stonewall, Switchboard, and the Terrence Higgins Trust, as well as personal records from figures like Paris Lees. They proudly maintain the Lesbian and Gay Newsmedia Archive (LAGNA) with over 300,000 press cuttings. The library boasts around 10,000 LGBTQ+ titles and a rich pamphlet collection. Additionally, they host the UK Leather and Fetish Archives, documenting the history of kink and BDSM in the UK.

Gay’s the Word Bookshop

Gay’s The Word is the UK’s oldest LGBT bookshop and a touchstone for the broader LGBT community. The bookshop was set up in January 1979 by a group of gay socialists as a community space where all profits were funnelled back into the business. This ethos continues today with shelves bursting with books and the space used for book and community events, all stewarded by four members of staff: Jim, Uli, Erica, and Pao.

Circa Soho

Opening in 2011, Circa Soho is a beloved spot in the LGBTQ+ community, offering a safe space for partygoers, known for its vibrant atmosphere and great nights. Located on Frith Street in London’s gay village, this stylish venue features chesterfield sofas, exposed brick walls, and the iconic Circa disco ball DJ booth. With top DJ talent every night, it’s perfect for dates, group outings, or afternoon drinks with premium-branded drinks at competitive prices.

Glasgow

Category is Book

Category Is Books is an independent queer bookshop in Glasgow’s southside, founded by Bug and Fionn Duffy-Scott. They aim to create a haven for the LGBTQIA+ community to explore and celebrate queer literature, art, history, and activism. Growing up under Section 28, they found life-changing inspiration in queer books and art. The shop opened in September 2018 in Govanhill, offering new and second-hand queer books, magazines, comics, zines, and badges. They also provide a pay-it-forward system for those unable to purchase books.

Glasgow FrontRunners

Glasgow FrontRunners (GFR) is Scotland’s largest LGBTQIA+ focussed sports club with over 300 members. We’re the second largest FrontRunner club in the UK, and one of the top ten largest FrontRunner clubs in the world! Founded in 2010, the club has gone from strength to strength and enjoys a diverse, mixed ability membership with something for everyone.

The Corset Club

Tucked within Glasgow’s historic Jacobean Corsetry building, The Corset Club is a beacon of joy for the LGBTQI+ community and allies. From signature cocktails to dazzling nightly performances, every experience here celebrates inclusivity. Their stage showcases diverse talent, reflecting the vibrant community tapestry. At The Corset Club, you’re not just a guest; you’re family.

Manchester

Outdoor Lads City Trails

OutdoorLads hosts a variety of sociable outdoor activities for the gay, bi, and trans community across the UK and beyond. From hiking and climbing to canoeing and sailing, they offer both adventurous and social events. With three dedicated staff members, their amazing volunteers run everything else. Events are friendly, and leaders ensure newcomers feel especially welcome. At OutdoorLads, everyone gets stuck in to have a great time.

Queer Lit Book Club @ The Cockatoo Club

Queer Lit has joined forces with The Cockatoo Club to launch Manchester’s premier gay male-focused book club. Get ready to dive into the hottest gay male titles of the moment with engaging author readings, discussions, and group exploration sessions. The Cockatoo Book Club convenes on the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm, offering a vibrant space for literary enthusiasts at 20 Richmond St, M1 3ND.

Red Light Cocktail Bar

Nestled in the heart of Manchester, Red Light is a speakeasy-inspired cocktail bar, welcoming the LGBTQ+ community and all. Tucked behind Kampus’ red-brick facades, a distinctive red light signals its enchanting realm. Step inside to a timeless atmosphere, with plush booths and captivating portraits creating an intimate yet exhilarating ambience. From Jogging Trails to Horse Riding – Activities in Hyde Park

Hyde Park is one of London’s eight Royal Parks. Its sprawling 350 acres are known for its historical significance and natural beauty, but the park also serves as a green lung in the heart of London. The park draws crowds of tourists and locals looking to indulge in outdoor recreational activities ranging from serene jogs to exhilarating horse riding.

Jogging and Walking Trails

Jogging in Hyde Park is a favourite activity among fitness enthusiasts. The park boasts several well-maintained paths, the most popular being the 7-kilometre loop that skirts the perimeter. This route is frequented by joggers and walkers alike, offering picturesque views and a flat terrain that suits all fitness levels. Additionally, the Serpentine Road that runs through the park is another favorite, particularly appealing for those who enjoy water-side scenery as it follows the edge of the famous Serpentine Lake.

For those looking for a more structured workout, Hyde Park also hosts Parkrun, a free, weekly, timed 5km run open to everyone and easy to join. This community-led event is perfect for those looking to improve their personal bests or meet other running enthusiasts.

Cycle Routes

Cycling is another activity widely enjoyed in Hyde Park. With designated cycling routes, the park is a haven for cyclists away from the city’s bustling traffic. The broad paths accommodate leisurely rides and more serious cycling sessions. Bike rentals are readily available at various points around the park, making it convenient for visitors to hop on a bike and explore.

Horse Riding

One of the more unique offerings of Hyde Park is the opportunity for horse riding. The park’s Rotten Row, a famous bridleway, is historically significant as it was the first lit road in England. Today, it continues to be a popular path for horse riding. Several stables nearby, such as Hyde Park Stables, offer horse riding lessons for both beginners and experienced riders. This unforgettable experience allows visitors to experience the park from a different perspective, riding along on horseback like royalty in past centuries.

Boating on the Serpentine

The Serpentine Lake is not just for joggers and walkers. It also provides a perfect setting for boating. Visitors can rent pedal boats or rowboats and enjoy a leisurely time on the water. This activity is especially popular in the warmer months, providing a tranquil escape and a chance to watch the abundant waterfowl that call the lake their home.

Swimming and Triathlon Events

For the more adventurous, the Serpentine Swimming Club offers the opportunity to swim in the open waters of the Serpentine. This club is known for its famous members, including Captain Matthew Webb, the first man to swim the English Channel. The lake also hosts annual triathlon events, which attract athletes from all over the world.

Visit Hyde Park

Hyde Park provides an array of activities catering to every outdoor enthusiast. Whether it’s a gentle jog, a vigorous horse ride, or a peaceful boat ride, the park’s historic paths and scenic vistas offer a refreshing retreat from the urban hustle. Discover Native Apart Hotel is close to the park, making it the ideal accommodation for discovering this fantastic historic park.

Start your day with a traditional English breakfast at a quaint café. Indulge in bacon, eggs, sausages, baked beans, and grilled tomatoes to fuel up for your adventure ahead. After breakfast, head to Buckingham Palace to witness the iconic Changing of the Guard.
Next, stroll through St. James’s Park toward Westminster Abbey. Marvel at the stunning Gothic architecture and delve into its rich history as countless kings and queens have been crowned and buried there. Continue to Whitehall, passing by the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

Here, you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the riverbank, with spectacular views of the London skyline, including the London Eye and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. For dinner, explore the vibrant food scene at Borough Market, where you can sample delicious street food from around the world. Grab a pint of local ale or cider to complete your culinary experience.

Day 2: Immerse in Culture and Creativity

Start your day with a visit to the British Museum, home to a vast collection of art and artifacts spanning thousands of years and countless civilizations. After exploring the British Museum, take a short walk to Covent Garden, a bustling hub of shops, restaurants, and street performers. Browse the market stalls and soak up the lively atmosphere.
For lunch, indulge in a traditional British pub lunch at one of the many charming pubs in the area. Savour classic dishes like fish and chips, bangers and mash, or a hearty pie.

After the show, walk along the illuminated streets of Soho, discovering vibrant nightlife and an eclectic mix of bars, clubs, and restaurants.

Day 3: Exploring Hidden Gems

Escape the hustle and bustle of central London this morning and venture to Hampstead Heath, a sprawling parkland offering breathtaking city skyline views. Take a leisurely walk through the wooded paths, visit the historic Kenwood House, and climb to the top of Parliament Hill for panoramic views.

The Adaptive Nature of Apart-hotel Spaces

In the ever-evolving landscape of hospitality, the concept of aparthotels has emerged as a dynamic and versatile solution catering to the diverse needs of modern travellers. Blending the comforts of home with the amenities of a hotel, these hybrid accommodations have gained popularity for their adaptive nature, offering guests a flexible and personalised experience.

At the heart of the apart-hotel concept lies the idea of flexibility. Unlike traditional hotels, which typically offer standard room configurations, apart-hotels provide a range of options, from studio apartments to multi-bedroom suites, catering to solo travellers, families, and extended-stay guests alike. This versatility allows guests to choose accommodations that suit their specific requirements, whether a cosy studio for a weekend getaway or a spacious apartment for a month-long business trip.

One key feature that makes apart-hotels different is their emphasis on self-catering facilities. Equipped with fully functional kitchens or kitchenettes, these spaces empower guests to prepare their meals. These spaces offer greater freedom and flexibility in their dining choices to cater to guests with dietary restrictions or preferences and provide a cost-effective alternative to serving out for extended stays.

Tapart-hotel spaces’ adaptability extends beyond their physical layout. Many properties offer various services and amenities that can be tailored to meet individual needs. Whether it’s housekeeping on-demand, grocery delivery services, or flexible check-in/check-out times, guests have the freedom to customise their experience according to their preferences.
The rise of remote work and digital nomadism has further fueled the demand for flexible accommodations, and apart-hotels are well-positioned to meet this need. With high-speed internet access, dedicated workspaces, and communal areas designed for collaboration, these spaces provide an ideal environment for remote workers and business travellers seeking a productive yet comfortable setting. Many properties feature contemporary furnishings and décor, creating a stylish and inviting atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. Whether a sleek urban loft or a quaint countryside retreat, apart-hotels offer diverse design aesthetics to suit different tastes and preferences.

Aparthotels offer flexibility and adaptability and a sense of community and connection. Unlike traditional hotels, where interaction with other guests may be limited, apart-hotels often feature communal spaces such as lounges, rooftop terraces, or co-working areas where guests can socialise, network, or simply unwind after a long day of exploring.
As the hospitality industry continues to evolve, the adaptive nature of apart-hotel spaces positions them as a compelling option for travellers seeking flexibility, comfort, and personalised experiences. Whether for a short-term stay or an extended vacation, apart-hotels offer a versatile solution that caters to the diverse needs and preferences of today’s discerning guests.
